ᒪᐢᑭᐦᑭᕀ maskihkiy is nêhiyawêwin (plains Cree) for medicine. maskihkiy takes a wholistic approach to wellness, rooted in iyiniwak wisdoms. we understand each person as whole & interconnected - mind body heart spirit - intertwined with all our relations of the cosmos. we believe each person carries the medicine needed to heal themselves and their relations.

at ᒪᐢᑭᐦᑭᕀ maskihkiy, our intention is to provide access to iyiniwak best practices in wellness and community care. we offer high quality, tailored services to individuals, families, communities, and organizations through iyiniwak (Indigenous) approaches to clinical practice, education, consulting, programming & research. we are committed to centering iyiniwak ways of knowing, being & doing that are rooted in thousands of years of experiential, community-based evidence.

meet Dr. Fellner: a leader in iyiniwak land-based therapy & education

in 2023, Dr. Karlee Fellner walked away from her tenured position as a professor of Counselling Psychology Indigenous Education at the University of Calgary to dedicate herself to directly serving community through ᒪᐢᑭᐦᑭᕀ maskihkiy. she has committed her life to living kayâs-isîhcikêwin (traditional culture) & centering iyiniwak approaches in clinical work & scholarship. with over 15 years' experience doing this work, her unique approach applies ancient wisdom in contemporary contexts for best practices.

understanding first hand the power of iyiniwak approaches to wellness, Dr. Fellner has a commitment to support individuals, families, communities, organizations, and professionals in accessing Indigenist best practices. as a clinical scholar activist, she has supported many national and international movements to justice for iyiniwak in academia and clinical practice. her services are rooted in decades of dedicated learning and experience, which she brings to her work and her team. Dr. Fellner is also a visual artist, mother, and traditional jingle dancer.

ᒪᐢᑭᐦᑭᕀ maskihkiy's team consists of kihtehayak (Elders), licensed clinicians, wholistic wellness supports, frontline trauma workers, and practicum and internship students. our collective leadership model involves kihtehayak & owiyasiwêwak (advisors) who guide our work in alignment with our values & community priorities.
all members of our team are trained in Indigenous Focusing-Oriented Therapy (IFOT) and/or Indigenous Tools for Living (ITFL), and participate in ongoing mentorship in applying iyiniwak ways of knowing, being, and doing in their work.
